"Daffodils" (1804)

One of the most beautiful poems I learned in my School days.

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed--and gazed--but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

Jealousy

Jealousy! I think everyone gets that emotion in their life. I have felt it from time to time.Jealousy is an emotion .It refers to the negative thoughts and feelings of insecurity, fear, and anxiety over an anticipated loss of something that the person values, particularly in reference to a human relationship.
A child may become jealous when their parents give some more  love to a sibling. A grown up person  may become jealous if they observe that their lover is flirting with someone else.I don’t know whether jealous is bad or good. Being a little jealous in is natural. It’s a normal human feeling . But it is important to not let it affect your life in negative ways. First understand what may be at the root of them. Truly understanding the root of those feelings, though, may be the most effective way to stop them from arising.

I've had people be jealous of me before. They say about hurtful thing they can think of, just to make you feel bad. They hate to see you happy, and they love to see you in adverse situations. jealous people tend to be disrespectful and lose their manners around you.
Next time when you encounter such lowlifes just remember to keep in mind that they are pathetic idiots who feel miserable and desperate over something you have. Consider yourself in the superior position.
Sometime jealousy is a waste of time and effort .It will poison a relationship faster than almost anything else .jealously is one of those emotions we don't want to feel, but almost impossible not to feel sometimes. A little bit of jealousy sometimes spices things up, but too much ruins everything.
Most married couples suffer from the jealousy of thei in-law. This could lead to breakdown of marriages, no matter how compatible the couples are.One way to handle this situation is to work on improving your self-confidence. I would advise you to read books about self-esteem. I would also suggest paying less attention to other people.

                                      Be Happy :)

Funny Weight Loss Plan

A man calls a company and orders their 5-day, 10 lb. weight loss program. The next day, there's a knock on the door and there stands before him a voluptuous, athletic, 19 year old babe dressed in nothing but a pair of Nike running shoes and a sign around her neck. She introduces herself as a representative of the weight loss company. The sign reads, "If you can catch me, you can have me."Without a second thought, he takes off after her.A few miles later huffing and puffing, he finally gives up.The same girl shows up for the next four days and the same thing happens.
On the fifth day, he weighs himself and is delighted to find he has lost 10 lbs. as promised. He calls the company and orders their 5-day/20 pound program.
The next day there's a knock at the door and there stands the most stunning and beautiful woman he has ever seen in his life. She is wearing nothing but Reebok running shoes and a sign around her neck that reads, "If you catch me you can have me."Well, he's out the door after her like a shot. This girl is in excellent shape and he does his best, but no such luck.So for the next four days, the same routine happens with him gradually getting in better and better shape.
Much to his delight on the fifth day when he weighs himself, he discovers that he has lost another 20 lbs. as promised. He decides to go for broke and calls the company to order the 7-day/50 pound program."Are you sure?" asks the representative on the phone. "This is our most rigorous program.""Absolutely," he replies, "I haven't felt this good in years."
The next day there's a knock at the door; and when he opens it he finds a huge muscular guy standing there wearing nothing but pink running shoes and a sign around his neck that reads,"If I catch you, you are mine!!!"
He lost 63 pounds that week.

What Men Call their Women

What's in a name? Apparently, a lot more than you (or I) ever thought there was. Here's what his pet name for you really means.....
  1. Darling - Depends on how he says it. If he stresses the first syllable, then he's probably done something wrong or wants money.

  2. Dear - Probably a leftover from his parents. Expect him to wear woolly cardigans, smoke a pipe and prefer a mug of Ovaltine to lager.

  3. Sweetheart -If it's said patronizingly, it's not so sweet. But when uttered in earnest, it may send your own sweet heart aflutter.

  4. Babe - Not to be confused with the film of the same name. Check for flares or signs that he's a 70s throwback. He's a bit of a medallion man. Chances are he's got his initials on his chunky ring. Leave immediately if he tries to sell you a second-hand car.

  5. Baby doll -This type of man will probably require you to wear transparent frilly nighties even in the dead of winter. He doesn't want you to grow up, and obviously can't deal with real women.

  6. Princess - Never trust a man who calls you princess. You may think you're being treated like royalty, but beware of Prince Charming - they may be secretly plotting your over- throw.

  7. Sexy - Fine if you're sexy. If you're not, who cares? He probably thinks you are anyway!!

  8. My girlfriend - He's honest, open and probably glad to have you around. The next thing you know he'll be using your name!

  9. The wife - If you're married then he probably thinks he owns you. If you're not, he probably thinks you act like his wife, in which case, he thinks he owns you.

  10. My other half - You complete the set - he's only half a man without you. But it may make you feel as though you are losing your identity somewhere.

  11. The missus -See The Wife.

  12. My partner - He's right on. Probably likes eating tofu and hugging trees.

  13. My significant other - He's even more right on. Probably thinks it's cruel to eat tofu and that trees need their own space.

  14. She who must be obeyed - He thinks you're a nag, but probably doesn't lift a finger around the house.

Vishu Specials

Happy Vishu

Vishu marks the beginning of Malayalam New Year, the beginning of hope and new life.Vishu is the astrological new year of Kerala. Vishu conveys the message of auspiciousness and prosperity. Vishukkani or the viewing of the auspicious objects is an important ritual associated with Vishu.
we celebrate the harvest festival, Vishu today.I woke up this morning around 4 am.Headed toward the living room with my eyes closed and there it was – the Vishu kani lit with lamps shining so bright everything so bright and colorful.. This propitious 'seeing ceremony' is a harbinger of health, happiness, peace and prosperity and set the tone for the year ahead. Of course ,then I received my "Vishukkaineettom". Crackers are not allowed here. But we can use them in some temples.
It is the custom for people to wake up at dawn on Vishu and to go to the puja room with their eyes closed so that the first thing that they see in the new year is the Vishukkani.  People also celebrate by wearing new clothes, lighting firecrackers and feasting.
For me it’s a festival of nostalgic memories  and they are invariably associated with my childhood. Those memories are as golden as the 'Kani Konna flower'.

Happy Vishu! Let this be a delightful year, filled with delightful things in each of its days.

TAMIL PUTTHANDU VAZHTHUKKAL

Bagavad gita quotes

"Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is"

"Neither in this world nor elsewhere is there any happiness in store for him who always doubts."

"The mind is restless and difficult to restrain, but it is subdued by practice."

"A person on the spiritual path should try to be non-envious, friendly and compassionate towards all living entities; he should be non-possessive, free from false ego, same in happiness and distress, and forgiving towards all "

"Those who eat too much or eat too little, who sleep too much or sleep too little, will not succeed in meditation. But those who are temperate in eating and sleeping, work and recreation, will come to the end of sorrow through meditation."

"The soul who meditates on the Self is content to serve the Self and rests satisfied within the Self; there remains nothing more for him to accomplish."

"Better indeed is knowledge than mechanical practice. Better than knowledge is meditation. But better still is surrender of attachment to results, because there follows immediate peace."

"When meditation is mastered, the mind is unwavering like the flame of a lamp in a windless place."

"Fear not what is not real, never was and never will be. What is real, always was and cannot be destroyed."

The Story of the Shiva Lingam

Shiva had no sense in the transitory pleasures of life, so he rejected samsara, smeared his body with ash, closed his eyes and performed austerities. Shiva's tapas generated so much heat that his body transformed into a pillar of fire - a blazing lingam that threatened to destroy the whole world. The gods did not know how to control Shiva's fire. Suddenly there appeared a yoni - the divine vessel of the mother-goddess. It caught the fiery lingam and contained its heat, thus saving the cosmos from untimely destruction.

Shiva is often pictured in a pacific mood with his consort Parvati, as the cosmic dancer Nataraja, as a naked ascetic, as a mendicant beggar, as a yogi Dhakshinamurthy, and as the androgynous union of Shiva and Parvati in one body (Ardhanarisvara). Shiva also takes the form of Ardhanari, his androgynous form. The right side of the sculpture is Shiva and the left side is Parvati. The attributes of each are split directly down the middle.

Another example of Shiva's apparent synthesis of male and female attributes is seen in his earrings. He wears one earring in the style of a man and the other as a female as shown in the two different earrings Shiva wears. The third eye is a symbol of higher consciousness. It is also something with which he can destroy his enemies "with fire." He can also kill all the gods and other creatures during the periodic destruction of the universe. Shiva's third eye first appeared when Parvati, his wife, playfully covered his other two eyes, therefore plunging the world into darkness and putting it in danger of destruction.

Massive earthquake strikes Indonesia, tremors felt in India!

India has withdrawn the tsunami warning issued after the massive earthquake measuring 8.6 on the Richter scale in Indonesia this afternoon, Press Trust of India reports.

A second round of tremors was felt in India in cities like Kolkata and Chennai at 4.25 pm, but there was no tsunami threat from these aftershocks. India's Nicobar Islands, closest to the epicentre of the quake, is still on alert.

The original earthquake struck Indonesia at 2.08 pm, and first reports said it measured 8.9 on the Richter scale. It spurred warnings of a possible tsunami. The quake was later downgraded to 8.6 magnitude.

A little over two hours after the first earthquake, Indonesia reported an aftershock that hovered around 8.2 on the Richter scale.

Officials in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are prepped for emergency processes. People have been asked to move away from the coast and the government evacuated some people from South Andaman as a precaution.

The Indian Air Force has kept ready for relief ops; six teams of 40 people each from the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) have been positioned at Hindon near Delhi, and at Chennai and two C-130 J heavy-lift aircrafts of the Indian Air Force are leaving for Port Blair with NDRF teams and 10 tonnes of relief material.

Before the strong aftershocks, the Home Secretary RK Singh said, "As of now there are no signs of a tsunami." But he said the union government was in constant touch with officials in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Odisha.

The minutes after the first quake saw emergency drills in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. On the beaches at Chennai, policemen used megaphones to ask people to leave, with little effect. Mobile phone networks were jammed in the city till 4 pm. In Andhra Pradesh, fishermen were asked to return from sea. In the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, civilians were asked to move to higher ground. In Kolkata, metro trains were stopped at 2.40 pm for nearly an hour; as a precaution, passengers were evacuated.

The quake was felt in Singapore, Thailand and India. High-rise apartments and offices on Malaysia's west coast shook for at least a minute.

In India, tremors were reported in Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and the southern part of Chennai. The tremors lasted for a few seconds. In Bhubaneshwar, people were seen running out of their homes and offices. No damage has been reported so far.

The Doctor and the Plumber

A pipe burst in a doctor's house. He called a plumber. The plumber arrived, unpacked his tools, did mysterious plumber-type things for a while, and handed the doctor a bill for $600.

The doctor exclaimed, "This is ridiculous! I don't even make that much as a doctor!"
The plumber waited for him to finish and quietly said, "Neither did I when I was a doctor.

Easter

Easter, which celebrates Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead, is Christianity's most important holiday. It has been called a moveable feast because it doesn't fall on a set date every year, as most holidays do.
Easter is usually celebrated on the first Sunday after the full moon following the Vernal or Spring Equinox on March 21st. This can be any Sunday between March 22nd and April 25th. It is the most sacred of all the Christian holidays or celebrations.
Christ's return (or rising) from death is called the Resurrection. According to the scriptures, Christ's tomb was empty three days after His death, which is commemorated on Good Friday. His followers saw Him and talked to Him after this. Christians therefore believe that they have the hope of a new life (an everlasting life in Heaven) after their earthly death.
People celebrate Easter according to their beliefs and their religious denominations.Easter customs vary across the Christian world, but decorating Easter eggs is a common motif. In the Western world, customs such as egg hunting and the Easter Bunny extend from the domain of church, and often have a secular character.

May your Easter be blessed with health, longevity, love and a lot of happiness..

Good Friday

Good Friday is observed on the Friday before Easter Sunday. It is celebrated traditionally as the day on which Jesus was crucified. This is an important event in Christianity, as it represents the sacrifices and suffering in Jesus' life. The crucifixion was the culmination of a number of events in Holy Week, including: the triumphal return of Jesus to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday; the washing of the disciples' feet by Jesus; and the Last Supper on Maundy Thursday.
Good Friday is a day of mourning and quiet prayer for many Christians. The candles are often extinguished and statues, paintings and crosses may be draped in black, purple or gray cloth.
Good Friday is not an official holiday in United States.

Pournami (poornima- Full moon day )

Poornima (Full moon day) is an auspicious day in Hinduism. Many important rituals and festivals takes place on full moon day. In South India, the day is known as Pournami. Upavaasam  (Fasting) is observed on this day by some people. The Poornima Fasting begins at Sunrise and ends after seeing the Moon. Most people only take food after seeing the moon or after evening Pooja. In some places in South India, the Pournami Vratam is dedicated to Devi, Mother Goddess. Holy Wednesday

Holy Wednesday is the Wednesday of the Holy Week, the week before Easter. Who is the Easter Bunny?

On Easter Sunday, many children wake up to find that the Easter Bunny has left them baskets of candy. He has also hidden the eggs that they decorated earlier that week. Children hunt for the eggs all around the house. Neighborhoods and organizations hold Easter egg hunts, and the child who finds the most eggs wins a prize.
The Easter Bunny is a rabbit-spirit. Long ago, he was called the "Easter Hare", hares and rabbits have frequent multiple births so they became a symbol of fertility. The custom of an Easter egg hunt began because children believed that hares laid eggs in the grass. The Romans believed that "All life comes from an egg." Christians consider eggs to be "the seed of life" and so they are symbolic of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Easter Egg

Easter eggs are special eggs that are often given to celebrate Easter or springtime.
The oldest tradition is to use dyed or painted chicken eggs, but a modern custom is to substitute chocolate eggs, or plastic eggs filled with confectionery such as jelly beans. These eggs can be hidden for children to find on Easter morning, who may be told they were left by the Easter Bunny. They also may be put in a basket filled with real or artificial straw to resemble a bird's nest.
The purpose of this is to include one and all in the joyous Easter celebrations and to spread happiness and goodwill among everyone.

Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday is a Christian moveable feast that falls on the Sunday before Easter. It is the beginning of Holy Week. It celebrates Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. Great crowds of people thronged the streets waving palm branches to welcome Him. The people shouted "Hosanna" and laid their cloaks and palm branches from the nearby trees in His path.

Story of palm Sunday
The morning after the supper at Bethany, Jesus called two of his disciples and said to them, "Go into the next village, and at a place where two roads cross, and there you will find an ass tied, and a colt with it. Loose them, and bring them to me. And if anyone says to you, 'Why do you do this?' say 'The Lord has need of them,' and they will let them go."
They went to the place, and found the ass and the colt, and were loosing them, when the owner said, "What are you doing, untying the ass?" And they said, as Jesus had told them to say, "The Lord has need of it!"
Then the owner gave them the ass and the colt for the use of Jesus. They brought them to Jesus, on the Mount of Olives, and they laid some of their own clothes on the colt for a cushion, and set Jesus upon it. Then all the disciples and a very great multitude threw their garments upon the ground for Jesus to ride upon. Others cut down branches from the trees and laid them on the ground.
And as Jesus rode over the mountain toward Jerusalem many walked before him waving branches of palm-trees. And they all cried together, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord! Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!"
These things they said because they believed that Jesus was the Christ, the Anointed King, and they hoped that he would now set up his throne in Jerusalem. Some of the Pharisees in the crowd, who did not believe in Jesus, said to him, "Master, stop your disciples!" But Jesus said, "I tell you, that if these should be still, the very stones would cry out!"
And when he came into Jerusalem with all this multitude, all the city was filled with wonder. They said, "Who is this?" And the multitude answered, "This is Jesus, the prophet of Nazareth in Galilee!"
And Jesus went into the temple, and looked around it; but he did not stay, because the hour was late. He went again to Bethany, and there stayed at night with his friends.
These things took place on Sunday, the first day of the week; and that Sunday in the year is called Palm Sunday, because of the palm branches which the people carried before Jesus.

Palm Sunday is marked by the distribution of palm leaves to the assembled worshipers.
